There are a number of methods or tools to estimate our life expectancy. Life expectancy is defined as how long, on average, members of a given population can expect to live. This is distinguished from life span, which refers to the maximum length of time any member of a species can survive. Though lifespan has changed very little over time, life expectancy has increased by nearly 40 years since the beginning of the 20th century. A team of researchers in the U.K. has incorporated physical conditions, age and weight, prosperity of surroundings to estimate how long we can expect to live based on a combination of these factors. Try this. (See the Calculator tab and Methods tab on the above My Longevity site for more details about the calculator. For metrics conversion, 1 pound = .453 kg, and 1 inch = 2.54 cm.) I filled it out and found that I have an expected 18 more years to live. Aside from being more informed and perhaps triggering some anxiety, the mere act of estimating our remaining years to live has a way of exploring and possibly adopting healthier lifestyle practices. Not a bad thing; in fact, a very good thing.
