This conversation explores the diagnosis of dementia. How is it manifested? What problems arise from the changes that occur in the brain of the person with this condition? And, what practical approaches do caregivers need to know about around orientation, meals, social activities, and daily communication? Our guest is Stacey Flint, Regional Strategic Marketing Director for Montessori-based Windsong Senior Communities, located in 3 states.
Also, listeners tuning in will learn what effect these changes have on the person’s functioning. For those unfamiliar with the Montessori education principles, in these cases it looks at finding the residual strengths in the dementia patient. And, building on what they can do. This individualized care means approaching the person as he or she would be without losses or deficits. Though, we still recognize the limitations that do occur.
- What cues are used in the care of the person with dementia?
- In addition, we discuss how to provide care during meal times?
- Learn how to avoid becoming frustrated with his or her poor memory, difficulty with self-care, and confusion?
